COL David G. McLeod, M.D., J.D., USA (ret) is the Director of the Center for Prostate Disease Research, a congressionally directed medical research program, former Program Director in Urology and Chief of Urologic Oncology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC. He is a Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, MD as well as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery (Urology) at Georgetown University Medical Center.
Doctor McLeod, a retired Colonel from the United States Army Medical Corps and has been a member of the Army Medical Department since 1964. During his career, Doctor McLeod has received numerous military commendations, including the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit award with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with five oak leaf clusters, Air Medal, and the Combat Medical Badge for service in Vietnam. Doctor McLeod served as Clearing Platoon Leader and Medical Company Commander of the 1st Brigade 101st Airborne Division during his tour in Vietnam.
An alumnus of the University of North Carolina's undergraduate and medical schools, Doctor McLeod also holds a J.D. from Northern Virginia Law School. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American Society of Clinical Urology, the Society of Urologic Oncology, the American Association of Clinical Urologists, and the Society of Surgical Oncology and is board certified in Urology. In addition, Doctor McLeod is a past President of the American Foundation of Urologic Disease (now known as the American Urological Association Foundation) and Past President of the Mid-Atlantic Section of the American Urologic Association. He has also served on the Residency Review Committee in Urology for a six year term.
A principal investigator in numerous collaborative studies, Doctor McLeod's work has appeared in major medical journals, including Urology, the Journal of Urology, the Journal of Urologic Oncology, and Cancer. He has also co-authored multiple chapters and publications on urologic oncology.
